Laces Out Kicking!

When you step onto the football field, one small detail can make all the difference: laces out. It’s a phrase every kicker knows — because getting it right means the ball flies true, straight between the uprights. I’m Seamus, a high school football kicker who’s made 65-yard field goals and found my place in the game I love. Football, and especially kicking, has given me confidence, focus, and a sense of belonging — things I want every kid to experience. Laces Out Kicking is my way of sharing that passion. Through hands-on workshops, I help young athletes learn: The fundamentals of field goal and extra point kicking Drills and techniques for building distance and accuracy The mental focus and discipline that kicking demands How small details — like keeping the laces out — lead to big results Whether you’re a beginner trying kicking for the first time, or a player who wants to improve your game, there’s a spot for you here. My goal is simple: help kids aim high, believe in themselves, and discover how awesome it feels to split the uprights . Because when you keep the laces out, anything’s possible.
Our Mission
Laces Out Kicking empowers kids to discover confidence, discipline, and joy through the art of football kicking. Inspired by Seamus’s passion for the game, we teach the skills, focus, and precision symbolized by “laces out”—because true success comes from the details.
Why "Laces Out?"
Why “Laces Out?”
“Laces out” is a specific football kicking term. When a holder catches the snap and places the ball for a placekicker (for a field goal or extra point), they must rotate the ball so the laces face away from the kicker’s foot (i.e. “laces out”).
Why?
-
If the laces are facing inward (toward the kicker’s foot), the ball’s surface is uneven and can cause the kick to go off target.
-
It’s a detail that affects accuracy and consistency — basically a hallmark of good technique and professionalism in kicking.
